Watch out for scam messages - This is how you recognize a genuine collection letter

Fake collection messages are becoming more and more common. They may arrive by email, text message or even as a letter. Anyone can become a target of fraud. That is why it is important to know when a collection notice is genuine and when it is not. You can always verify a debt collection claim by logging into the My B2 Impact service or contacting our customer service.

Warning Signs that Indicate a Scam

If you receive a suspicious debt collection letter or message, watch out for the following signs:

  • The message emphasizes urgency or threatens immediate legal action.
  • The language is unclear or contains spelling mistakes.
  • Payment is requested to a foreign account or an account not in the name of B2 Impact.
  • The message lacks a customer number, invoice reference, or creditor name.
  • The link directs to a website that does not end with b2-impact.fi.
  • The sender’s email address is suspicious, for example, from a free email provider.

Authentic B2 Impact Collection Letter Contents

A genuine collection letter from B2 Impact always contains the following:

  • The name of the creditor, such as an online store or service provider.
  • The amount owed, the due date and a breakdown of the debt.
  • A reference number for payment.
  • Instructions for logging into the My B2 Impact service at my.b2-impact.fi
  • Customer service contact information.
  • A Finnish bank account number, IBAN starting with FI, in the name of B2 Impact

If any of these details are missing or appear incorrect, please do not make a payment before checking the matter.

How to confirm the authenticity of the claim:

  1. Log in to My B2 Impact and check if the case appears in your information.
  2. Contact our customer service if you are unsure.
  3. Never pay into the account provided in the message unless you are certain it is genuine.
